Yolo County Arts Council's Art in Public Places projects have been a strong
collaboration with the County Central Services Division and the Yolo County
Board of Supervisors. We also consult with municipalities, private businesses
and prospective donors on this subject.
Integration of artwork as a component in any public building is essential to
humanizing the space for the end user and in creating public value for all
aspects of the arts in our county.
YCAC and the County of Yolo strive to include artwork in public places that
is appropriate for the facility, accessible to the public and representative
of the best work by artists of our county and our region.
The Yolo County Arts Council (YCAC) is contracted as the lead consultant.
YCAC convenes an Art Committee with representatives from the architects,
contractors, various County department heads, interested YCAC Board members,
a representative of the general public and the Art in Public Places Subcommittee
of the Board of Supervisors to develop the Art Plan for each project.
The location(s) within the building site, and the method for selecting the
art/artists are decided upon by this committee. The selection panel that makes
the final recommendation usually includes representatives from the architect's
firm, the County agency that is involved, employees and/or end users of the building,
design professionals and Art in Public Places specialists.
Past projects include:
Yolo County Department of Employment and Social Services
Yolo County Juvenile Hall
Yolo County Probation Department
Yolo County Health and Mental Health Building
